AA Bondy | Surfer King

Since the beginning of this site, AA Bondy has been a constant - his premier album American Hearts and the Daytrotter session accompanying it are still incredible enough for me to revisit, and his follow up When The Devils Loose (and that Daytrotter session) taught me how to not be in such a rush with music. Both albums are strictly Bondy at his best, yet feel so completely unique from each other. Believers promises to follow suit. Caught this track today via musicsavage:

NPR debuted AA Bondy’s “Surfer King” off his recently released album Believers as the NPR song of the day yesterday. So in the spirit of SOTD I gave it a listen.  Its a bit of a different feel from his earlier days of being a blues / folk troubadour.  This slow, ambling song tromps around on a feathery light, downtrodden, almost sobbing sound.  It’s a haunting song that is quite gorgeous in its ability to both be sad and comforting at the same time.

You can stream Believers here, and pick it up the new album here. I don’t recommend holding off on this one. Grab the track above from NPR.
