Dr. Dog | That Old Black Hole
So, as the story goes, I hit up a Dr. Dog concert with a friend back in the summer of ‘09, fresh off the heels of their Shame, Shame release - the only songs I really knew being a longstanding cover of Heart It Races originally done by Architecture In Helsinki and a track or two off the album. But despite not being all that familiar with their music, I stood enraptured by their set from the beginning to the end. Their singing was pitch-perfect, their stage presence betrayed years performing, and every song had my full-on attention. There was no better way to sell me on them than for that night to have happened.
So, as a Dr. Dog devotee, I get pretty pumped when hearing a track like That Old Black Hole, heralding the new album Be The Void on February 7th of next year. It stays true to their psychedelic indie rock roots and packs the same punch I saw them deliver in concert, gaining momentum as the track rolls on like a hamster wheel toward festive hand-clapping chaos.
Follow ‘em via the website and promise me you’ll keep your eye on this one. Also, because I want you to hear Heart It Races so bad if you haven’t, here ya go (it was incredible in concert):
