Icarus Himself | On Your Side

This one’s a keeper. Wisconsonite trio Icarus Himself have apparently been adding to and perfecting their sound since Nick Wheatro started the project as a solo act in 2008. Since then, the addition of a drummer (Brad Kolberg) and “multi-instrumentalist” (Karl Christenson) as bandmates have made for some pretty well-crafted music.

On Your Side is a looping, buzzing psychedelic-folk track that steadies itself on a background riff while the sounds of an electronic guitar accompany Wheatro’s vocals, eventually building into a joyful arrangement of sounds by song’s end (though not before throwing some acoustic guitar in). It’s the kind of shot in the arm that I’ve needed musically.

On Your Side is part of the concept album and band’s second full-length album Career Culture, due out on October 11th (via Science of Sound).
